If you were Prime minister for a Day: What would you change?

I think we can all agree that 2020 was a whirlwind! Though 2021 hasn’t been all too much better, there is a light at the end of the tunnel and we are heading in the right direction. Over the course of the last year we all faced many challenges. COVID-19 disrupted the economy placing many out of work and onto furlough. The murder of George Floyd in the United states sparked global outrage and many UK cities saw Black Lives Matter Marches in protest of police brutality. The NHS has faced its toughest year yet with many key workers low in morale and frustrated with poor salaries that don’t reflect their hard work. On top of this, England has withdrawn from the European Union with its Brexit deal.

In an ideal world, I would change many things if I were prime minister! If I had it my way then I would reduce university fees back to £3000 so more people have the opportunity to further their education. I would also raise the minimum wage! £4.55 for employees under 18 is not nearly enough for a person’s labour. I would also increase railway subsidization. Extortionate railway tickets to travel across the United Kingdom make it difficult for those on a budget to travel. I would also reform the GCSE and A Level system. At the moment, educational policy has transformed the way that students are assessed. From linear A Levels to harder GCSE exams, students are increasingly stifled in their educational journey.

We would love to know your thoughts on how our prime minister is handling the current situation in the UK! Do you agree with the way he has managed the pandemic? What are some things that you would change if you were running the country?

Tell us what you think by writing a short response below on what you would do if you were prime minister for a day! We will enter your submission into our competition and the best entry will win a prize!

People who are crazy enough to think they can change the world, are the ones who do
