Football and Other Recreational Opportunities

Participation in regular physical activity can increase self-esteem and reduce stress levels and anxiety. Physical activity not only helps general physical health but can also play an important role in the improvement of mental health. Through our football and other recreational activities, CYP will also develop a range of key transferable skills such as teamwork and interpersonal skills, as well as positive behaviours, perseverance and self-confidence.

BiG Football Activities

BiG delivers a range of football services targeted at 7 to 14-year old CYP’s designed to encourage health and fitness outside of school hours. These programmes were originally designed by Lionel Best who has a strong background in football including playing semi-professional football and coaching at academy level, who wanted to encourage and share his passion for the sport to help empower CYP.

The BiG Elite Football Development Programme

The BiG Elite Football Development Programme is BiG’s specialised programme aimed at supporting talented grassroots level footballers bridge the gap between where they are and academy standards. It is a selection-based programme that develops grassroots players through a syllabus based approach that will equip them with the tools they need to play at a higher tempo by, for instance, learning how to play within 3 seconds (BiG’s football development philosophy).

The BiG Holiday Football Programme

We usually have anything between 30 and 40 young people, age between 7 and 14 years old (key stage 2 and 3) attending our holiday programmes, which are designed to be exciting, educational and fun. Through BiG’s popular point system, participants develop key life skills such as problem solving, leadership and team working skills as well as determination. CYP participate in fun development small sided football games and big matches.

Our popular points system, supports the development of personal and social skills that also equips CYP with key tools to return back to school. The points system rewards effort and deters anti social behaviour. This happens as participants are scored out of 10 each day based on their conduct and positive participation. They have the opportunity to earn bonus points for showing good leadership and team working skills such as self management and supporting others. Through our fun ‘stretchy’ starter challenges, they can also earn bonus points, whilst developing resilience and problem solving skills. Points are also deducted for unacceptable behaviour, which always helps to improve behaviour and conduct throughout the programme.

other football clubs

BiG delivers weekly football clubs in the community which also include popular points system providing the opportunity for CYP to earn trophies. They are structured in the same way as the BiG Holiday Football programmes aimed at providing fun and educational football activities for the community to engage in. BiG also delivers ‘in-school’ After School Football Clubs, and again, we include our points’ system.
